Black Belt Champions and elite leaders know the value of setting goals and taking massive action. They realize that for them to reach their potential, they must take the initiative to make things happen.
We all know people that make excuses for not achieving their goals or getting the job done. They blame other people or circumstances for their lack of progress. They will sell you on every reason why they could not get the desired result. But in the end, it’s all a bunch of excuses. "There are those in the ranks who will stay in the ranks! Why? I'll tell you why: 'Simply because they haven't the ability to get things done!'" ~ Dale Carnegie “If it’s to be...it’s up to me” is a mindset of no excuses and get the job done. It’s about taking consistent action and achieving your goals. When obstacles come up, champions stay positive and proactive. They may need to adjust the plan or the timeframe but they still see the project or goal through until it is done. No blaming, no excuses, and no whining! It’s all about accepting 100% responsibility and taking massive action. When it’s time to go to class...GO! When it’s time to run...get your shoes on and go! When it’s time to make a healthy food choice so you can maintain your ideal weight...make the right call! When someone earns their Black Belt at Elite Force Martial Arts, their name is embroidered on the belt. That means that person demonstrated a high degree of discipline and follow through. No one can do it for you! Don’t wait...create! Make no excuses - Get the job done! Kaizen is a Japanese term that means constant and never ending improvement. It’s the idea that every day we do something to better ourselves mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Self-development expert, Tony Robbins says progress is one of the 6 human needs that is necessary for true happiness. In fact, many studies show that people are happier when they are moving towards a goal then when they attain the goal. People like to look forward to things. It gets them out of bed in the morning, gets them to work hard all day long, and keeps them up late at night. First things first, you must have clear goals or intentions this year that motivate you. Clarity is power! Then you must realize that to have more, you must become more. Do you want more money in your job? Then you must become more valuable to your company. Do you want better relationships? Then you must become a better listener, more empathetic, and caring. So how do you embrace and implement this idea of being a KAIZEN warrior? It starts with a plan! Most of us are busy all day long dealing with countless challenges, putting out fires, and trying to hold it all together. Sound right? You can’t control what happens during your day but you have complete control over the bookends of your day…in other words, you can control the time when you first get up in the morning and the time right before you go to bed. If you get up early, or at least earlier than everyone else in your house, you will have some free time that is uninterrupted. Imagine that! Same thing right before you go to bed. You have complete control to do (or not do) whatever you want. They say that one hour uninterrupted is the equivalent of 6 hours when you are constantly dealing with interruptions. This is the time to pick up a book and read something inspiring or informative that will help you grow in your career. This is the time to plan your day. Did you know that for every minute you spend in planning, it saves you 10 minutes in execution? Plan when you are going to the dojo for your kids' class or your kickboxing class. Plan when you are going to the gym or going for a run. Plan your meals for the week. When do you make poor food choices? When you are hungry and don’t have anything healthy with you. I’ve been there, done that, and got the t-shirt! This is a great time to simply think! My mentor, Jeffrey Gitomer, says there should be time in your calendar everyday blocked off to think. He says you will be amazed with the great ideas that you come up with. Write out at the top of a piece of paper a challenge you are dealing with and start thinking of ways to solve that problem. Trust me…you will come up with some amazing ideas! Consider also NET time. NET time stands for “No Extra Time”. During your day, you are swamped, but what about when you are driving? Listen to an educational podcast or follow a mentor on YouTube. Listen, don’t watch while driving! You could listen to an audio program while at the gym or running. Doing any of these strategies will help. Implementing more than one and sticking with them will change your life! Recent studies now show it takes 66 days to develop a habit. Stay the course and you will be happier, healthier, and making more progress in life than you ever thought possible! I think you will become better looking too! :) Thank you for being a part of the Elite Force family! Want to feel differently? Act Differently!
I have spent 15 years studying successful people, trying to figure out what makes them rise to the top in their fields. What drives them? How do some people rise to the top while others, who seem talented and hardworking, never reach their true potential? Do some people just have the “Midas touch”? You know, everything they touch turns to gold. I don’t believe in luck alone. I believe the harder a person works, the luckier they get. I think the key is in those two magic words – HARD WORK! Most people allow their feelings to determine what they do. They feel tired so they hit the snooze button. They feel sluggish so they skip their workout. They are hungry and in a hurry so they swing by McDonald’s. They allow their feelings to determine what they do, and over time, this becomes their identity. Sooner or later that person says think like… “I can’t lose weight. I’ve tried everything.” “I don’t have time to work out. I’m too busy.” “I just can’t get motivated.” The formula they follow is: FEELINGS => ACTIONS => IDENTITY What if you flipped a couple words around? What if you made the formula go like this: IDENTITY => ACTIONS => FEELINGS? Instead of doing something (or not doing something) based on how you feel in the moment, ask yourself what would the person I want to be do right now? If you acted based on the person you want to become, hence shaping your new identity, that would drive you to take positive actions, like reading great books, working our consistently, going to the dojo 2-3 times per week, getting up on time, going to bed on time, etc. Acting like the person you want to be, or said another way, acting like the best version of you, will make you feel great! You will feel proud, confident, and invigorated. Lynne Arlen is a 66-year-old 2nd Degree Black Belt at our school. She trains with her husband Bob, who is also a 2nd Degree Black Belt, their daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Chuck Marchitello who both 2nd Degree Black Belts, and their grandchildren, Isabella and CJ who are both Black Belts. Years ago, she was on the verge of osteoporosis. She just went to the doctor to have her bone density checked. The norm for someone her age is a -1. Lynne is at a +7! The doctor said her active lifestyle has given her the bone density of a 40-year-old! Now her goal is to have the bone density of a 30-year-old. So, she’s getting even younger!!! And her husband, Bob, isn’t complaining at all! Why did this happen? Lynne has changed her identity. She doesn’t see herself as a typical 66-year-old. She sees herself as a lean, mean, focused and fit 3rd Degree Black Belt! And there is not a doubt in my mind she will get there. IDENTITY => ACTIONS => FEELINGS When you adopt this formula overtime, magic happens! The compound effect takes over. Like Darren Hardy says in his book The Compound Effect, “The slightest adjustments to your daily routine can dramatically alter the outcomes in your life.” It’s human nature to not want to get up on time. It’s human nature to want to stay on the couch and watch TV instead of working out. It’s human nature to want to skip your morning or evening run. Remember…action creates motivation! The motivation comes after the action, not before. Remind yourself of the person you want to be, then act like that person. When you do that, you will feel like the champion you are. You will feel like a super successful rock star that can make a difference in the world! Thank you for being a part of the Elite Force family! Check us out at www.eliteforcemartialarts.com Why do people in Lighthouse Point LOVE Kickboxing? Kickboxing is a buzzword that has been around forever. Today when people think of kickboxing, they think of a cardio style aerobics class with loud music and people punching a bag. This, however, is not real kickboxing and does not offer nearly the amount of benefits of authentic Muay Thai Kickboxing. Muay Thai is the science of 8 limbs (2 hands, 2 legs, 2 elbows, and 2 knees). It is commonly referred to as the most effective stand up striking art in the world. Authentic Muay Thai Kickboxing classes offer so many benefits. First, it is incredible for self-defense. It’s simple, effective, and straight forward approach teaches people of all ages and stages to protect themselves in a variety of situations. It’s also an incredible workout. Kickboxing utilizes High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), which is a style of cardio training that sprinters and elite athletes use. You train at a high intensity level for 2-5 minutes (depending on your fitness level) then let your heart rate come down for 1-2 minutes. This type of training is great for burning fat, while building muscle. This leaves you looking lean, fit, and strong! Third, the workouts vary so much people don’t get bored. There are so many ways to vary your workouts when doing Muay Thai Kickboxing. You do shadow boxing (practicing your techniques in the air to master the form). You hit the heavy bags to develop power and effective combinations. The partner training in Kickboxing is very popular with our students. You will learn to hit the boxing mitts to develop hand speed, then you will learn to hit the Muay Thai pads to develop both speed, power, and proper timing. On top of all that, you start learning partner drills where both students have their gloves and shin guards on. You learn actual offensive and defensive strategies that work in the ring and in the street. UFC Hall of Fame fighter, Ken Shamrock, says there is no confidence like self-defense confidence. As students learn authentic Kickboxing skills and go through the training, their confidence grows because they know they can protect themselves and their loved ones. Plus, they are getting in top physical shape so they feel great about who they are and what they look like! Students do the same type of training that professional fighters do, however it is 100% safe and they can go at their own pace so no one gets hurt. Safety is a top priority at Elite Force Martial Arts in Lighthouse Point. Our philosophy is “this is a partner, not an opponent”. Meaning the techniques, drills, and skills are all done at a safe pace so no one gets hurts but the realism and effectiveness are still there. It’s a Win-Win!
